Olli Mustonen

1967

Olli Mustonen is a pianist of top international calibre who is also a conductor and a composer. This is a combination that he has embraced since childhood; or, as he puts it: “Composers, instrumentalists, conductors, teachers, all of them should be ‘musicians’.” As a composer, he has remained aloof of the various schools and styles, exploring various idioms from Neo-Classical to Romantic, concentrating particularly on Neo-Baroque. The majority of his works are of course for his own instrument the piano, but his output spans a range from solo violin to symphony, comprising mainly instrumental music.
